Local Optician to Lecture at Major UK Conferences

Michael Gilsenan of Lee Opticians (Warrenpoint & Crossmaglen), a recognised expert in the field of School Vision, has been invited to speak at three major UK and Scottish conferences this summer on the topic of children’s vision.

Michael has been invited by the Association of British Dispensing Opticians to deliver two lectures to an audience of 100 Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians in London at the end of May on the ‘Role Dispensing Opticians can play in children’s vision care’.

Michael has also been invited to lecture at the NHS Education for Scotland training conferences in Edinburgh and Glasgow (26/27th May) on the role of Dispensing Opticians in School Vision Screening.

Michael says: “I’m delighted to be invited to speak to professionals in my sector and share my research with them. I hope that through these lectures, we as professionals can lobby government and Education Departments across Ireland, Scotland and the rest of the UK, for improvements in the way children’s vision is screened in schools.”

Michael was the first optician in Northern Ireland to gain a School Vision Diploma and establish a School Vision Clinic in his Warrenpoint practice. He is also a specialist in treating visual dyslexia and has gathered a significant body of research in the field of children's eye care. He is currently involved in a number of research projects including a study with Kingston University. For more information contact Lee Opticians, tel 028 4175 3030 or www.leeopticians.com
